Frederick Junior Newton

June 5, 1927 — April 23, 2016

Frederick Junior Newton, 88, of Allenwood, went to be with the Lord at 10:53 pm on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Rolling Hills Manor.

He was born on June 5, 1927 in Watsontown, a son of the late Frederick Gray and Gladys Jane (McKee) Newton.  On February 14, 1953, he married the former Viva Marjorie Rene Atkinson, who passed away on February 7, 2013.

He served in the US Army during the Korean War until his honorable discharge on September 8, 1952.

Fred worked as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, Harrisburg.   He also served as a Wesleyan pastor for many years at various churches.

He was a member of New Columbia God’s Missionary Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Darla Cooley of Mifflinburg, Donna Newton of Weslaco, TX, one son and daughter-in-law, Frederick Ray and Joy Newton of Weslaco, TX, one daughter-in-law, Carol Newton of Watsontown, five grandchildren, Joel Newton, Charity Sutton, Jonathan Newton, Joshua Newton, Benjamin Newton, 10 great grandchildren, three brothers, Ray Newton of Saugerties, NY, Robert Newton of Watsontown, Max Newton of Watsontown, and one sister, Roxie Boob of Watsontown.

He was preceded in death by one son, Dale Newton, one sister, Ida Shiley, and one son-in-law, David R. Cooley.

Family and friends are invited to the viewing from 10 to 11 am on Monday at the New Columbia God's Missionary Church, 852 Ridge Rd, New Columbia, where the funeral will be held at 11, with Pastor Matt Ellison, officiating.

Interment will be in the Watsontown Cemetery.
