Harold "Hap" R. Sampsell

February 6, 1923 — February 11, 2017

Harold ("Hap") R. Sampsell, 94, of Naples, Fl, formerly of Millmont, entered into rest on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at The Arlington, Naples, FL.

He was born on February 06, 1923 in Laurelton, a son of the late Harry and Frances (Schnure) Sampsell.  On October 30, 1947, he married the former Marie E. Blyler, who passed away on November 19, 2004

Hap graduated as valedictorian of his class in Hartley Township High School.

In 1941 he signed up with the Navel Air Corps and in 1943 went into service with the Naval Air Corps at Glenview, IL, Mt. Vernon, IA, Chapel Hill, NC, and Pensacola, FL respectively and was honorably discharged in 1946.

Hap served as Postmaster for the Millmont Post office for two years, and then transferred to Rural Mail Carrier with the U.S. Postal Service for the Millmont area, covering 72 miles daily. He retired in 1986.  Earlier in life he worked for Piper Air Craft from 1946 to 1947 when the plant closed, American Car and Foundry plant in Milton, and Diehl's Chevrolet in Lewisburg as the tire shop manager.

Hap was a member of Christ's United Lutheran Church, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Treasurer, and on the church council.

He was a member of the Mifflinburg American Legion, Post 410, Member of Free and Accepted Masons, Lodge, 370, Mifflinburg, Williamsport Consistory, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Free Masonry of the Valley of Williamsport, member and past president of the Pennsylvania Rural Letter Carriers' Association, member of Bear Run Hunting Camp, member of Millmont West End Lion's Club, and National Rural Letter Carriers' Association.  He also served as scoutmaster for 7 years, Mifflinburg school board treasurer/member from 1948 to 1963, little league manager, and treasurer of the municipal authority.

Hap enjoyed gardening, helping with church dinners, and playing with children.  He was known for his dry sense of humor.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Doug Denisen of Naples, Fl., one brother, Myron Sampsell of Laurelton, and one sister-in-law, Ada Sampsell.

He was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, Phoebe Sampsell and Jeanne Sampsell, and two brothers, Carl Sampsell and David Sampsell.

Family and friends are invited to the viewing from 10 to 11 on Saturday, February 18, at the Christ's United Lutheran Church (Four Bells) 13765 Old Turnpike Road, Millmont, where the funeral will be held at 11, with the Rev. John D. Yost, officiating.

Interment will be in the New Laurelton Cemetery.
