Marlin Arthur "Pappy Speed" Troup

June 19, 1926 — May 21, 2016

Marlin Arthur “Pappy Speed” Troup, PFC, 89 , of 278 Raven Lane, Mifflinburg entered into rest at 8:44 on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at his residence surrounded by family.

He was born June 19, 1926 in West Buffalo Township, Union County, he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Lillian Agnes (Stetler) Troup.  He was the loving husband of former Helen J. Weaver, married June 28th 1950.

Marlin served in the United States Army during World War II.  He was war wounded in combat in Germany and was honorably discharged receiving the Purple Heart Medal.  He was also the recipient of the European Theater Ribbon with one Battle Star, the Combat Infantry Mans Badge and the Good Conduct Medal.

He was employed by the Young Door Co. in Sunbury PA for 30 years where he drove truck.  After retiring from the Door Company, he worked as a custodian at the Mifflinburg Elementary School four years and is a retired member of the Teamsters Local No. 764 of Milton PA.

He was a member of F. and A.M. Lodge #370 and The Masonic Breakfast Club in Mifflinburg, the Valley of Williamsport A.A.S.R. (Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Free Masonry), The Irem Temple of Dallas, The Shrine of Sunbury, Club 39 of Mifflinburg, Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge # 1396, Mifflinburg, Yoder-Zimmerman Post # 1964, Veterans of Foreign War, Mifflinburg, and Thomas H. Clapham Post #410 American Legion, Mifflinburg.

“Pappy Speed” will be missed by the members of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church where he was a member since 1950.  He served there as a member of the Council and took many odd jobs as their “handyman”.  Speed enjoyed fishing in Canada with the guys, traveling the country, golfing and boating with his wife, fixing anything that needed fixin for anyone who needed help and most of all his family, especially his grand kids.

Surviving are two daughters and one son in law, Donna and Mike Hackenberg of Mifflinburg and Teresa Matthews of Middleburg.  Four Grandchildren Kelly & Steve Walter of Mifflinburg, Ryan & Mindi Hackenberg of Mifflinburg, Wesley Troup of Middleburg and Ashley Troup of Mt. Pleasant Mills, seven great-grand children, Matthew & Nicole Walter, Austin and Andrew Walter, Karli and Aric Hackenberg all of Mifflinburg and Jayden Elsassar and Lily Lower of Mt. Pleasant Mills, two sisters, Ruth Zimmerman of Mifflinburg, Geneva Chambers of Lewisburg.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Clarence "Whitey" Troup, Donald Troup, Carl Troup, Harold "Fuzz" Troup, and three sisters, Jane Troup, Miriam Klingler, Kathryn Zimmerman.

Family and friends are invited to visit with the family from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM on Saturday at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 404 Market Street, Mifflinburg, where a celebration of life will be held at 11, with the Rev. John D. Yost, officiating.  A Masonic service will be conducted at 10:45 am in the church sanctuary by members of Mifflinburg F. &A.M Lodge #370.

Interment with full military honors accorded by veterans from the Mifflinburg American Legion, Post 410 will be in Hill Top Cemetery, Mifflinburg.
