Mary C. Metzger

Mary Catharine Metzger, 89, of Mifflinburg entered into rest at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Riverwoods, where she had been a guest since November 2015.

She was born on January 6, 1927 in Williamsport, the daughter of the late John C. and Mabel A. (Fague) Bower.  On August 12, 1944, she married Norman Eugene “Gene” Metzger who preceded her in death on December 19, 2012.  Together, they shared 68 years of memories.

Mary was a homemaker.  She retired from Bucknell working in the housekeeping department.

Mary was a member of the Dreisbach United Church of Christ, Buffalo Valley Grange, Pennsylvania State Grange, and New Berlin Homemakers Club.

Mary enjoyed making crafts, reading, playing games, baking, sewing, gardening, bird watching, square dancing, and traveling; where they visited 48 states and Europe. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving are seven children; Barbara J. Zeller of Mifflinburg, Norman E. and Hetty Metzger, Jr. of Texas, Deborah L. and Larry L. Pfirman of Lewisburg, Joyce A. Ruhl of Mifflinburg, Joan M. and Willie Watimar of Mifflinburg, Wanda J. and Brad Shively of Millmont, Cris E. and Margaret Metzger of Mifflinburg, seventeen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, one brother and sister-in-law, Joseph B. and Connie Bower of Allenwood, one sister and brother-in-law, Margaret B. and Harold "Bud" Drick of Allenwood, one sister-in-law, Shirley Bower of Elimsport.

She was preceded in death by a stillborn son, two great-grandchildren, two sons-in-law, Larry L. Zeller, Michael W. Ruhl, and one brother, John C. “Sonny” Bower, Jr.

Family and friends are invited to the viewing from 10 to 11 AM on Monday at the Dreisbach United Church of Christ, 875 Dreisbach Church Rd, Lewisburg, where the funeral will be held at 11, with the Rev. Nathan Druckenmiller, officiating.

Interment will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Montgomery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mary’s memory may be sent to Dreisbach United Church of Christ, 875 Dreisbach Church Road, Lewisburg, Pa 17844.
