V. Eugene Swartzlander

January 28, 1940 — May 13, 2017

V. Eugene “Gene” Swartzlander, 77, of 1079 Buffalo Creek Road, Mifflinburg entered into rest on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at his residence.

He was born on January 28, 1940 in Adams Twp., Snyder County, a son of the late Vares E.  Swartzlander and Ida May (Ferry) Swartzlander.  On December 30, 1967 in Mifflinburg, he married Margaret E. Swartzlander, who passed away in 1999.  On February 22, 2003 in the Mifflinburg Church of the Nazarene he married the former, Irene E. (Ackely) Loss, who survives.

Gene was a graduate of Mifflinburg High School Class of 1959.

He served three years in the Army National Guard.

Gene worked at Pennsylvania House Furniture for 33 years in the cabinet department.

He was a member of the Mifflinburg Church of Nazarene, where in earlier years he served as a teen and caravan leader.

Gene enjoyed playing music and watching western movies.  In his earlier years he liked to go hunting.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Sharon Swartzlander of Mifflinburg; two step-sons and daughters-in-law, David and Cindy Loss of Williamsport, Dan and Jennifer Loss of Doylestown, PA;  seven grandchildren, Donald DeHaven, Joseph Swartzalnder, Robert Swartzlander, Brad and wife Kara Loss, Arleyna Loss, Nathan Loss, Owen Loss; one sister, Winafred Ettinger of Oakland, AR.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Eleanor Krietz and Joanne VanKirk.

Family and friends are invited to the viewing from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday and from 10 to 11 AM on Thursday at the First Church of the Nazarene 12 Market Street, Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be held at 11:00 am, with Rev. Wayne S. Krell, officiating.

Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gene’s memory may be sent to Mifflinburg Church of the Nazarene, 12 Market Street, Mifflinburg, PA 17844.
