Kathryn E. (Irwin) Fritz

Kathryn E. (Irwin) Fritz, 96, of 2070 Pleasant Grove Road since 1996 and resident of Lewis Twp for 72 years entered into rest at her family home on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 9:10 am with family by her side.

She was born on March 27, 1922 in Hartley Twp., Union County, the daughter of the late John E. Irwin and Charlotte M. (Hironimus) Irwin.  On June 19, 1945, she married Gordon G. Fritz, who passed away on January 02, 2008.

Kathryn was a graduate of Mifflinburg High School, class of 1940.

She was a member of Community Christian Church of Vicksburg.

Kathryn worked as an inspector for the JPM Corp of Lewisburg.  She then began acquiring, restoring and selling antiques from a part of her home that she restored into a small shop.  Interestingly, the home she resided in was uniquely designed by her and her husband.  She was known by many to have fair prices and quality pieces.  She also offered her pieces at antique shows including Heritage Day at New Berlin.

At the age of 21 Kathryn learned to fly a plane obtaining her private pilot license.  She had hoped to enlist in the armed forces wanting to assist in delivering planes for the war effort.  However due to her small statue it was determined that she wasn’t suited for flying.

In 2008 Kathryn began painting using various mediums, including reversal glass painting, acrylics, and watercolors.  She would also do her own matting and framing as well.  In August of 2012 she had her art featured at the Gutelius House, Mifflinburg.  Many of her painting still adorn the walls of her home. She also donated many of her paintings to her church and the proceeds were used to fund mission projects.

Kathryn enjoyed reading, refinishing furniture, and traveling with family to Colorado, Tuscan, and fishing trips to Ontario, CDN.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law; Dennis I. and Karen M. Fritz of Mifflinburg, one grandson, Jason M. and wife Daphine Fritz of Mifflinburg, two great grandchildren, Jonathan and Sarah Fritz at home. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters; Susan Kreps, Esther Shipper, and Pauline Ely, two brothers, Therlow Irwin, John L. Irwin.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to the visitation from 10 – 11 am at the Monday, Feb. 25, 2019 at the Community Christian Church of Vicksburg, 6460 Old Turnpike Road, Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be held at 11, with the Rev. Jeffrey Yount, officiating.

Interment will be in the New Laurelton Cemetery (Long Lane), Millmont.
