John J. Lococo

May 12, 1947 — September 1, 2018

John J. Lococo, age 71, of Mifflinburg, PA passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on September 1, 2018 at Geisinger Medical Center.  He is survived by his wife, son, two step-daughters, four siblings, five grandchildren, and many other loved ones.

John was born and raised in New York, the fourth of six children, and the son of Salvatore and Caroline Lococo.  He attended Whitesboro High School, was active in the A/V Club and was a DJ for high school dances - he graduated in 1965.  John served in the Army from 1966 to 1968 and was assigned to the 32d Air Defense Command in Germany.  Following his honorable discharged from the Army; John attended Buffalo State University and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1971.  Later he earned a Master's Degree in Education from Penn State.  In 1971 he was hired as an industrial arts teacher for the Mifflinburg Area School District.  John worked with the school district for 35 years, and was actively involved in guiding the district through the birth of the personal computer and the Internet, and eventually became the school district's first IT Coordinator. In 1978 he met his wife of 40 years, Jeanne Lococo, who he referred to as "Jeanne-Marie", and together they had a son, Jonathan Lococo.  John also helped lovingly raise Jeanne's two daughters, Eileen (Albanese) DeCecco and Andrea (Albanese) Clark.

John loved listening to music, and played the guitar and harmonica.  Throughout his life, he enjoyed making and fixing things.  He restored an El Camino, a Corvette, and an International tractor. Some of his other projects included a flint-lock rifle, a corner cabinet, and carousel horses.  He enjoyed watching movies, including his favorites, Superman and The Godfather.  Family was very important to him.  He made many trips to be with his family in New York and helped them whenever he could.  His love for teaching extended beyond the classroom.  He was often found patiently explaining things or giving advice to anyone that needed help.  John had a wonderful sense of humor.  He was always joking around and needling his family and close friends. John would often times be seen with a cup of Dunkin' Donuts coffee in his hand, "extra-large with double cream".  John had a strong inner faith and attended mass at Sacred Heart in Lewisburg, PA.

It was John's wish to have no viewing or funeral - he wanted people to celebrate his life and not his death.  He will be laid to rest in Mifflinburg Cemetery, the town he loved so much.  Memorial donations may be made to the Alumni & Friends of Mifflinburg Area School District Foundation.
