Joseph Robert Ciabocchi, 86, of Lewisburg, passed away at 6:56 pm on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 while he was a patient at Heritage Springs Memory Care, Lewisburg.
He was born on September 17, 1932 in Blakely, PA, the son of the late Joseph and Helen (Bankoski) Ciabocchi. On August 8, 1953 in Manchester, England, he married the former Patricia Flint. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
After graduating from West Scranton High School in 1950, Joseph joined the U.S. Air Force in March of 1951. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal before his honorable discharge in January of 1955.
Joseph graduated in 1957 with a BS degree in accounting from the University of Scranton. After graduation, he worked in the alumni office, until becoming Controller for the PA Turnpike Commission, Harrisburg. Upon his retirement in 1981, Joseph and his wife purchased the Sheshequin Campground in Trout Run, PA and operated it 26 years.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Lewisburg.
Joseph enjoyed being outdoors. He was a hunter and a fisherman, he enjoyed fly tying, traveling and spending time at ‘El Cabino’ with his friends and sons.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Robert Ciabocchi of NY, Michael Ciabocchi of AK, one daughter, Elizabeth Ciabocchi of NY; 8 grandchildren, Sara, Nicole, R.J., Tim, Lisa, Lauren, Jordan and Ethan; and one sister, Barbara Violanti of FL; and a niece Michelle O’Reilley and a nephew Joseph Violanti.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, 814 St. Louis Street, Lewisburg at 12 pm on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, with the Rev. Mark Wilke as celebrant.
The Rite of Committal will be held privately in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Scranton with full military honors.
