Reuben S. Shirk, 66, of Middleburg entered into rest at 8:26 am on Monday, July 16, 2018 at his residence surrounded by family.
He was born on February 19, 1952, in East Earl, Lancaster County, a son of the late Samuel M. and Anna Z. (Sensenig) Shirk. On September 28, 1972, in Denver, PA, he married the former Lydia B. Leinbach, who survives.
Reuben was an excavator since 1978, having owned and operated Ressco Excavating, Middleburg.
Reuben was a member of Morning Star Mennonite Church where he served as an ordained deacon. He also served some years doing foreign and domestic mission work.
Surviving in addition to his wife are one son and daughter-in-law, Matt and Shelia Shirk of Middleburg, five daughters and sons-in-law, Esther and Ron Penner of Canton, KS, Julia and Bryce Koehn of Galva, KS, Beth and David Kurtz of Middleburg, Kathy and Jerry Raber of Dalton, OH, Carol and Nathan Kurt of Mifflinburg, 19 grandchildren, two brothers, Samuel and Anna Shirk of Fleetwood, Paul and Esther Shirk of Versailles, MO, and seven sisters, Lena and Kenny Martin of Fortuna, MO, Edna and Eli Martin of Versailles, MO, Anna Mae and Allen Leinbach of Versailles, MO, Ellen and Harlan Zimmerman, Fortuna, MO, Lizzie and John Ray Nolt of Barnett, MO, Arlene and Adam Martin of Versailles, MO, Erma and Albert Zimmerman of Barnett, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Allen Shirk, and two sisters, Suetta and Mary Shirk.
Family and friends are invited to the viewing from 1 to 4 PM and from 6 to 8 PM on Saturday, at the Morning Star Mennonite Church, 1875 Mensch Road, Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be held Sunday at 10:30AM, with Pastors, Israel Wengerd, Sylvan Yoder, and John Boese, officiating.
Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
