Arnold M. “Buck” Gilkey, 83, of Mifflinburg, entered into Eternal Rest at 9:24am on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Riverwoods with his family by his side.
Born on June 18, 1935 in Kansas City, he was the son of the late Western Earnest and Tylene C. (Charles) Gilkey. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy J. (Zechman) Gilkey.
He was a graduate Hopkinsville High School in 1954 and the Kentucky School of Embalming with a degree in Mortuary Science.
Buck served in the US Army National Guard with the rank of Caption until his honorable discharge in 1971.
He worked for the Maddux-Faqua-Hinton Funeral Home and the Henninger Funeral Home both in Hopkinsville, KY. Following his career in funeral service he worked in retail at various stores.
Buck was a member of the Pleasant Green United Methodist Church in Christian County, KY, as well as an attendee to New Hope Bible Church in Mifflinburg, PA.
He was a member of New Berlin American Legion, Post 957, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Masons since 1953.
Buck enjoyed fishing, traveling to Florida and the Smokey Mountains, and camping.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Michael A. Gilkey of Mifflinburg, PA; 2 grandchildren, Christopher R. and his wife, Rebecca Gilkey of Princeton, KY, Michael A. Gilkey, Jr. of Mifflinburg, PA; 1 great-grandson, Weston Gilkey of Princeton, KY; a devoted nephew, Ken Lepley of Lewisburg; as well as 3 sisters-in-law and 2 brothers-in-law, Phyllis Sholter of Lewisburg, Faylene and Earl Rothermel of Mifflinburg, Marie and Dale Zechman of Millmont, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service and interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.
