Bertha and her sister, Mary, began singing as teenagers in church camp meetings throughout Central Pennsylvania. In 1947, she was called to be a choir director for the Intercession City Bible College in Florida. In 1948, she and Paul joined the Central PA Gospel Band, where she served as band director and clarinetist for 44 years. She was a cashier at JJ Newberry in Lewisburg and also at IGA in Mifflinburg. In her spare time, Bertha gave piano lessons from the mid 50's until the early 80's.
Music was her passion, instilling it into each of her family members. Bertha had a devotion room where she would spend time with her Lord, reading her Bible and spending time in prayer. Spending time with her family was very important to her. She enjoyed playing games and putting puzzles together. In her later years, she enjoyed watching birds and wildlife through her windows.
