Dr. Stanford C. Sholley

Dr. Stanford C. "Stan" Sholley, Jr., 71, of 116 Quail Lane, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, Feb. 6, 2012, at his home.

He was born August 26, 1940, in Ono, Lebanon County, a son of Sallie Sholley, of Lewisburg, and the late Stanford C. Sholley.

A 1958 graduate of Lewisburg High School, Stan graduated from Susquehanna University in 1962 and Georgetown University School of Dentistry in 1967. In 1967, he began a practice of general dentistry in Mifflinburg, PA, where he remained for 44 years. From his early years through middle adulthood, Stan was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Mifflinburg. Most recently, he attended Cornerstone Christian Fellowship.

As a youngster, Stan was a member of a Lewisburg Little League baseball team which earned a third-place finish in the State of Pennsylvania. At Susquehanna, he played varsity tennis. Stan was a long-time member and past president of the Mt. Bethany Gun Club. He loved being in the mountains and for the last 22 years of his life he and his wife, Diane, lived at the end of a secluded mountain lane in Clinton County. They would have celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary on March 8.

Throughout his life, Stan had a quiet but firm Christian faith. He and Diane distributed literature, and taught prisoners and prison parolees through Free Word Christian Ministry, a licensed prison ministry. They also taught classes in a variety of churches throughout Central Pennsylvania.

In addition to his mother, Stan is survived by his wife, Diane; a son, Aaron, and daughter-in-law, Sonya, of Harper's Ferry, W. Va.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Sandy Sholley, of Lewisburg, and Sharon S. Kribbs and her spouse, Robert, also of Lewisburg. He is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Robert Wallich and his wife, Eileen, of Florida; and Christian Wallich and his wife, Dona, of Harper's Ferry. His surviving aunts and uncles include Joyce Swope, Hummelstown; Vivian Paxton, Lebanon; David Shuey, Campbelltown; Robert Sholley, Lewisburg; and Arlene Bailey, Lewisburg. He is survived by numerous cousins and their families as well.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family from 10 to 11 on Friday at the First Church of the Nazarene, 12 E. Market Street, Mifflinburg, followed by Stan's life celebration service beginning at 11 with the Rev. Eric R. Reamer, Pastor of Oil City Free Christian Church, officiating. Following the service, relatives and friends are invited to fellowship with the family in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, 268 Vista Avenue, Lewisburg, PA 17837 or to Evangelical Hospice, One Hospital Drive, Lewisburg, PA 17837.
