Elwood W. Walter, 89, of Mifflinburg joined his Heavenly Father on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Evangelical Community Hospital.

Born on July 13, 1931 in Limestone Twp, Union Co., a son of the late James Oliver and Emma (Heimbach) Walter. He married the former Anna K. Burrey, who survives. His passing ends a union of 68 1/2 years.

After the passing of his father Elwood was nurtured by an excellent herdsman, Harold Benner of Vicksburg, who was instrumental in starting ABS Breeding Co. of Lewisburg. He then worked at Burrey's Warehouse in Lewisburg for 17 1/2 years.
Upon the death of Mr. Burrey, he and his wife eventually started a dairy herd near Mazeppa, Elwood was an excellent herdsman and with his son, Doug, knowledge of cows cross breeding the production improved dramatically.

Elwood was a member of the Montandon Baptist Church, served as an officer for D.H.I.A in Union County, and was a 50 year member of the Moose, where he loved to support the Mooseheart Home for Children.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Anna, is one daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Ronald M. Wagner of Mifflinburg, two sons and daughters-in-law, Doug E. and Tracy D. (Hess) Walter of Lewisburg, David A. and Laura L. (Abrahams) Walter of Middleburg, four grandchildren, April L. Wagner of Millmont, Ammon J. and Stacey (Eberhart) Wagner of White Deer, Garrett O. Walter and Ian K. Walter both of Middleburg, two great grandchildren, Daniel C. Hook, of Mifflinburg and Lily H. Hook of Millmont.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd and George Walter, two sisters, Alma Pontius and Clara Pardoe and a daughter, Roberta Ann Walter in 1972.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic a private memorial gathering to honor Elwood's life will be held at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Elwood`s memory may be sent to the Montandon Baptist Church, Mifflinburg Ambulance Assoc, Mifflinburg Hose Company, or Mooseheart Home of Children,155 N International Dr Ste 2, Mooseheart, IL 60539.
