Evelyn graduated from Mifflinburg High School with honors in 1929, enrolled in Geisinger School of Nursing, and served for two years as a private duty nurse.
On April 2, 1933, she married Fred D. Pick, who was given a vision of people needing God, felt a call from the Lord to preach the Gospel and to build a church in his community. The girl who never wanted "to be a preacher's wife" stood by his side to help him fulfill his call. Evelyn faithfully served as a pastor's wife from 1943 to 1977 for 34 years of devoted ministry. The Rev. Fred D. Pick passed away on November 13, 1999. Together, they shared 66 years of memories.
Services were first held in the Old Wehr School House where she played the piano, taught Sunday school, visited the sick, and served as church secretary, writing letters, answering the mail, and completing reports.
In September of 1946, the Church of the Nazarene moved to a new building in Mifflinburg. Evelyn had a heart for missions and was Missionary President for 27 years over their entire pastorate. She led an Award Society with over 10% of church finances given to missions each year. She also served as Zone Missions Chairperson for 27 years and on the District Missionary Council for 30 years.
Evelyn was committed to all ministries of the church. She wrote and directed Christmas programs for children where every child in church had a part, and teen programs that were presented each Sunday night. She was Co-director with her husband of Senior Adult Ministry program and activities.
Evelyn was a faithful servant, devoting her life to serving the Lord in her home, the church, and the community.
She was a gracious hostess, a superb cook, well known for her delicious meals, pies, wedding cakes and everyone was always welcome in her home.
She was a woman of prayer, a true friend, who reached out with a smile and encouragement to others.
She enjoyed reading, was a lifelong learner, and used her knowledge to minister to the needs of those around her.
She served in various programs within the community through the Ministerium, Lenten Lunches and World Day of Prayer.
Evelyn is survived by a daughter, Julia M. Lenhart of Millmont; a foster daughter, Elizabeth Fegley of Mifflinburg; 4 grandchildren, David W. Lenhart, Deborah K. Bell, Stephen W. Lenhart, Susan L. Her love for the Lord and her commitment to serving others never wavered, and this scripture stands as an epitaph to her life, "Well done, thy good and faithful servant...enter thou into the joy of thy Lord." Matthew 25:23
