George P. Willow

May 8, 1920 — February 15, 2014

George P. Willow, 93 of 2100 Ridge Road, entered into rest at 9:20 a.m. Saturday February 15, 2014, at his family farm. He was also known as “Pop” and “Grandpa” to many.

He was born May 8, 1920 in Pleasant Grove, PA a son to the late Henry and Lizzie (Zimmerman) Willow. On February 21, 1948, he married the former Ella S. Brouse, and they celebrated 66 years of marriage together.
He was a devout member of Dreisbach U.C.C., Lewisburg. Previously a member, Sunday school Teacher, and Consistory member of Rays Church, Millmont until it closed.

After graduating from Mifflinburg High School in 1937 he worked on the dairy farm of Oscar and Mary Brouse as a hired hand before starting his own dairy farm in 1945. He milked cows on the family farm until 1985, on his 65th birthday. In addition to farming he had a repair shop for automotive, farm machinery, heavy equipment and lawn mowers. He was an insurance agent for Farm Family Insurance, past president of Union County Farm Bureau, Mifflinburg Area School District Board member, Supervisor of Limestone Township, and past director of Eastern Milk Producers.

George enjoyed staying busy. Aside from being a dairy farmer, he was always working on repairing lawn mowing equipment, mowing lawn, working in the gardens with Ella, hunting with family, or having a conversation with a friend. He and Ella enjoyed spending time with family and visiting shut ins.

He was not just a husband, a father, or a grandfather. He was a vast influence on so many as he had wise words to share. There was always a joke shared and so many laughs.

George is survived by two sons, a daughter, a son-in-law, and three daughter-in-laws, Terry and Judy Willow of Mifflinburg, Beloved daughter-in-law Carol Willow of Mifflinburg, Richard and Susan Krick of Mifflinburg, Alan and Roberta Willow of Watsontown, 18 grandchildren, and 26 great grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by one brother, Donald, one sister, Miriam Seebold, and a son Samuel.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the viewing on Wednesday from 10 to 11 AM at the Dreisbach United Church of Christ, 875 Dreisbach Road, and Lewisburg where the funeral will be conducted at 11 with the Rev. Michael C. Romig, officiating.

Interment will be in Mifflinburg Cemetery. Following the graveside service there will be a time of fellowship and light refreshments with the family in the church’s fellowship hall.

The family suggests contributions in George’s memory be made to Dreisbach U.C.C., Lewisburg, to be distributed to George’s favorite charities.
