Jonas P. Bender

Jonas P. Bender was born on January 21, 1933, in Belleville, PA, to Iddo and Jemima “Mima” A. Peachey Bender. He peacefully passed to his eternal reward on April 24, 2026, with family by his bedside.

He married Amelia E. Peachey on Nov. 25, 1954. To this union were born 11 children.  They were blessed with 64 1⁄2 yrs together.   In 1959, they moved to Mifflinburg, PA. 

Mom’s passing in May of 2019 was very hard on him, leaving him very lonely. He spent time with the children, helping out with many projects. He loved staying active and remained so up to 7 weeks before his passing. We had and still have the security of a Christian home. We are thankful for the assurance that we will meet in Heaven.

Those left to cherish his memory are the children: William & Kathy Bender, Ella & Richard Koehn, Salina & Randall Helms, Thomas & Wilma Bender, Wilma & Bradley Litwiller, Ezra & Connie Bender, James & Eunice Bender, Jonas Jr. & Robin Bender, Chester & Regina Bender, Eldon & Rachel Bender, one sister-in-law, forty grandchildren, seventy-two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter, Jamima, parents, parents-in-law, 3 grandsons,1 granddaughter, and his siblings.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the WellSpan Hospital and Hospice staff for their compassionate care of Jonas before his passing.

Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the Church of God in Christ Mennonite, 1875 Mensch Rd., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., with ministers Israel Wengerd and David Kurtz officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.
