Lamar “Barney” Arthur Kahler, 92, of 229 Kahler Lane, Millmont entered into rest at 2:20 AM on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at his residence.
He was born on February 01, 1925 in Leck Hill, the son of the late Harry Albert and Ida Mable (Kehler) Kahler. On June 17, 1950, he married the former Lois L. Munson, who survives. Together, they shared 66 years of memories.
Barney was US Army Veteran serving in WWII from May 27, 1943 until his honorable discharge on Dec 15, 1945. He served bravely in the campaigns of Normandy, North France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. He was awarded good conduct service medal with 5 bronze stars and World War II Victory Medal.
Barney worked as a self employed mechanic for the following businesses over the years, Doisick and Hobert Ford Dealership, Shamokin, Miller Gas and Oil, Wayskales Oils Co.,, Shamokin, Mifflinburg Motors.
He attended the West End Bible Fellowship.
He was a member of the West End Fire Co., and the Shamokin and Mifflinburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Clubs.
Barney enjoyed hunting and fishing, tractors, working in his workshop and tinkering.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Ellen Kahler, Gary Kahler, Paul and Patty Kahler all of Millmont, one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Joe Lau of Bismark, AR, nine grandchildern, and twelve great grandchildern.
He was preceded in death by brother, Arnold W. Kahler.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation from 10 to 11 AM on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the West End Bible Fellowship, 19200 Old Turnpike Road, Millmont, where the memorial service will be held at 11, with the Rev. Richard L. DeVett, officiating. Full military honors will be presented following the service by the Mifflinburg VFW and other area veterans.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Barney`s memory may be sent to West End Bible Felloship, PO Box 36, Laurelton, PA 17835.
