Lemuel Leroy "Lem" Dressler

September 4, 1917 — May 20, 2012

Lemuel Leroy "Lem" Dressler, 94, of 2421 Old Turnpike Road, Lewisburg, formerly of Mifflinburg went to be with the Lord at 10:53 AM on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Evangelical Community Hospital.

He was born on September 4, 1917 in Halifax, the son of the late Lemuel S. and Mary A. (Lebo) Dressler. On April 03, 1942 in Rebersburg, he was united in marriage by the Rev. Truman Wise to Pauline E. Sholley, who preceded him in death on July 16, 1998.

Lemuel joined the U.S. Army on January 27, 1944 having served in WWII as a Tec. SGT. Medic in the Transportation Corps until his honorable discharge from active duty on January 20, 1946. During WWII Lemuel made five round trips to Europe on the George Washington, General Black, and Edmund B. Alexander Ships. He was a medic and helped take care of the injured being brought back to the U.S.

Lem worked for 22 years in the maintenance department at the former Laurelton State School and Hospital. He was formerly employed at Milton Steel and Brubaker Tool in Millersburg. During his years at the "Village" he also tended to a milk delivery route, and earlier in life he farmed near Millersburg.

Lem was member of the Mifflinburg Church of the Nazarene, where he sang in the choir, served as a board member, and with his wife's assistance, maintained the Church for many years. He recently was honored with the Distinguished Service Award for long term contributions to the church.

He was a charter member of the Mt. Bethany Gun Club, former member of Central Pennsylvania Gospel Band, where he played bass horn. Music was a joy to Lem and he also played the harmonica and guitar.

Lem's passion was hunting and fishing. He made several western hunting trips, and fishing trips in Canada and Maine. He once achieved the triple trophy of deer, bear, and turkey.

Lem was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and over the last few years while residing at Elmcroft he developed many special relationships.

Surviving are two daughters and son-in -law; Janet L. Graham of Harrisburg, Martha D. and Samuel Gill of Mifflinburg, three sons and daughters-in-law; Richard L. and Marian of Bangor, Maine, Robert E. and Robin Dressler, William D. and Debra Dressler both of Mifflinburg, eight grandchildren; Lisa Rishel, Jessica Zeller, Jeremy Dressler, Jason Dressler, Matthew Graham, Kiley Urse, Nathan Dressler, Ryan Dressler nine great grandchildren; Bethany Hollenbach, Kasey Rishel, Erin Rishel, Cade Dressler, Troy Dressler, Hunter Dressler, Grace Graham, Samantha Urse, Jensen Urse, and one great-great grandson; Evan R. Hollenbach.

He was preceded in death by two brothers in infancy; Ross D. Dressler, John D. Dressler, and five sisters; Catherine D. Dressler (infancy), Bessie Wendt, Grace Miller, Mary Straub, Margaret Troutman.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to the viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the Mifflinburg Church of the Nazarene, 12 East Market Street, Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be held at 11, with the Rev. Wayne S. Krell, officiating.

Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Millersburg.
