Leon Edwin Machamer, 97, of 708 Turkey Run Road, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 22, 2012, at 8:25 p.m. in RiverWoods, Kelly Township, Union County, where he was a quest since Nov. 3, 2009. He had resided in Buffalo Township from 1960 until he entered RiverWoods.
He was born April 14, 1915, in Lewisburg, a son of the late Harold and Ruth Machamer. Leo was united in marriage on June 29, 1946, in Elkton, Md., to the former Hilda Isabell Elliott who preceded him in death on July 26, 1994.
He attended Lewisburg schools and was a veteran of the Army serving during World War II. He served with the 11th Armored Division, under Patton's Third Army.
Leon retired in 1984 after 24 years of service from Bucknell University, Lewisburg, where he worked in the maintenance department. Prior to 1960, he was employed by the former B.O. Daubert Plumbing and Heating, Lewisburg.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Terry R. and Roxy Machamer, of Thompsontown; four grandchildren and their spouses, James L. and Angie Machamer, Christina A. Machamer, James D. and Christine Amspacker, and Justin E. and Ashley Amspacker; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Leon was the last of his immediate family and was preceded in death by six siblings, Josephine Steele, Janet Hiatt, Isabell Cimino, Donald, Harold and Richard Machamer.
A graveside service will be conducted at the convenience of the family in the Machamer family plot in the New Berlin Cemetery, Walnut Street, New Berlin. The Rev. Joseph N. Yorks, pastor of the East Salem United Methodist Church, Mifflintown, will officiate. Full military rites will be accorded by the Thomas H. Clapham Post 410, American Legion, Mifflinburg.
