Margaret K. "Maggie" (Cornelius) Loss of 500 Hazel Street, New Berlin, passed away Sunday afternoon, May 5, 2013 at RiverWoods in Lewisburg.
She was born April 17, 1926 in New Berlin, Pa, the daughter of the late George Robert and Esther (Wetzel) Cornelius. On July 20, 1947, she married Lamar D. Loss Sr. at Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Berlin. He died on April 18, 1993, breaking a marital union of 45 years.
They had one son, Lamar D. Loss Jr., who preceded her in death on July 19, 2009.
She was a 1944 graduate of Lewisburg High School.
Margaret was employed by the United States Postal Service, Middleburg office for 30 years. She also served two years as the Postmaster in New Berlin.
Margaret was a very active member of Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she played the organ and sang in the choir. She also taught Sunday school, and directed the youth choir for many years.
Following her years of employment, she volunteered at Evangelical Community Hospital, and drove for USTA.
Margaret was well known in the town of New Berlin. She enjoyed playing cards and helping with community events. She had a great sense of humor and affectionately called others "whippersnapper".
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Libby Loss of Mifflinburg, her grandchildren and their spouses, Kiersten and Brian Harrington of Horsham, Pa, Jed and Elizabeth Loss and Janelle and Seth Hicks of New Berlin, Pa., and Kortney and Nathan McBryan of Lewisburg Pa. She also is survived by six great- grandchildren Leah, Paige, Calen, Colbie, Connor, and Ava.
Besides her husband and son, Margaret was preceded in death by her brother Robert Cornelius and his wife Helen, a sister, Marion, and 2 brothers who died in infancy.
A Celebration of Life will be held on at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, 308 Market Street, New Berlin, with the Reverend Andrew Fitch and the Reverend Robert Logan, officiating. Relatives and friends by visit with the family from 2 to 3 at the church.
Interment will be in the New Berlin Cemetery.
