Michael W. Ruhl

September 9, 1951 — September 7, 2014

Michael W. Ruhl passed away at his home on Sunday, September 7, 2014 after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Joyce, of 42 years, his children Joshua & Shana, favorite daughter-in-law Mandi and grandchildren, Bradee, Lynzee and his two little angels Cameron and Makenna.

Mike was born on September 9, 1951 to Fred and the late Carol Ruhl of Williamsport. He is survived by his two sisters Wendy & Kathy, brother Christian and his Mother-in-Law, Mary Metzger and preceded in death by one sister, Becky. On September 25, 1971 at Dreisbach Church of Christ, Lewisburg he wed his lifelong sweetheart the former Joyce Ann Metzger.

Mike was a farmer for many years before he started the family business in 1990, S & M Catering. The family will be honoring his legacy with the continued operation of the business.

Although he changed his career, he never lost his passion for farming. He faithfully attended cattle auctions from his living room couch and read his “Bible” Lancaster Farming.

When the weather turned cold and he couldn't spend time on the deck or in the garage on a lawn chair, he spoiled his family with trips to his second home, Jamaica. Where, with his signature long, “blond” hair, soothing “radio” voice and rock and roll attitude, he was treated like royalty...mostly because they thought he was Kenny Rogers.

His devotion to his family, especially his grandchildren, was almost super human. He never missed a sporting event, choral concert or any special event in his family's life no matter how bad of a day he was having.

Mike, Dad, Bossy...you may have told your last “Papa” joke, sang your last made up silly song and shared your last plethora of knowledge, but you have a captive audience to keep the legacy going!

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Mike's life at 3pm on Friday, September 12, 2014 at Dreisbach United Church of Christ, 875 Dreisbach Road, Lewisburg, Pa with the Rev. Michael C. Romig officiating. Following the service family and friends are invited to continue the celebration at his home located at 84 Boomer Lane, Mifflinburg.
