Nevin "Jake" R. Weaver

January 4, 1932 — December 23, 2013

Nevin "Jake" R. Weaver, 81, a lifelong resident of Mifflinburg went to join his wife, Elsie, at 4:35 pm Monday, December 23, 2013 at Evangelical Community Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Jake was born January 4, 1932 in Mifflinburg, the youngest child of Elmer B. and Miriam (Haines) Weaver. He married Elsie Spotts on March 14, 1952 and her passing in 2009 ended a martial union of 57 years.

He graduated from Mifflinburg High School in 1951 having played football and baseball for the Wildcats. He continued with baseball playing for the Mifflinburg Town Team and coaching Little League for 11 years.

Jake was employed by Stan Seiple Construction, PA Department of Transportation and was Road Master for West Buffalo Township from 1971 to his retirement in 1997.

He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mifflinburg; the Buffalo Valley Sportsmen's Assn., the Union County Sportsmen's Club and was a volunteer firefighter and member of the Mifflinburg Hose Co. #1 since 1954.

Jake was an avid sports fan rooting for the Nittany Lions, Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles, and his hometown Wildcats. He was a lifelong supporter of Mifflinburg Wrestling since the program started in the 1950's.

He enjoyed family time, hunting, fishing, mountain rides and hanging out with his buddies, the Pardee Hunting Gang and 3 O'clock McDonald's Coffee Crew. One of favorite activities was attending his grandkids and great grandkids sporting events which he rarely missed. He was their biggest fan.

Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Judy and Tom Shirk, Kristie Weaver Othoudt ; one son and daughter-in-law Steven (Jake) and Cathy Weaver; all of Mifflinburg; one sister and brother-in-law, Helen Jean and Marlin Troup of Mifflinburg; one brother and sister-in-law, Harold and June Weaver of Florida; two sister-in-laws, Althea and Jean Weaver both of Mifflinburg, 8 grandchildren, Wendy Warren, Carrie Cross, Justin Weaver, Adam Weaver, Brandon Weaver, Ryan Weaver, Logan Othoudt and Landon Weaver; 6 great-grandchildren, Michael and Brady Warren, Kyle and Juliana Weaver and Brailynn and Elaina Cross; and his adopted grandson, Brian Haggy.

Jake was met in Heaven by his loving wife Elsie, granddaughter Deanna Shirk, sister Arlene English and brothers John, Frank and Abe Weaver along with some of his lifelong buddies.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jake's life at 6:30 pm on Tuesday January 7, 2014 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 421 Market Street, Mifflinburg, with Interim Pastor Peter Bergstresser and Rev. James R. Taylor, SUN Home Hospice chaplain, officiating. Following the service there will be a time of fellowship and light refreshments in the church social hall.

Interment will be conducted privately in East Side Cemetery, Mifflinburg.
