Orvis Edward Wallace, 92, of 91 Laney Street, Mifflinburg entered into eternal rest at 7:30 AM on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Evangelical Community Hospital.

Born on February 22, 1921 in, Troxelville, he was a son of the late Charles E. and Charlotte P. (Hall) Wallace. On December 07, 1940, he married the former Betty M. Derr, who survives. Together, they shared 73 years of memories.

On June 15, 1944, Orvis joined the U.S. Army. He served during WWII, receiving the Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with 2 Bronze Battle Stars. He was honorably discharged on July 26, 1945.

Orvis worked as a trackman for the Pennsylvania Railroad Company for 31 years. He was known as a jack-of-all-trades; helping out with his craftsmanship for others.

Orvis was a member of Christ’s United Lutheran Church, Millmont. He was a tireless worker for many church dinners at the West End Fair and also at the church; and he was always willing to lend a hand whenever necessary for the church.

He was a lifetime member of Mifflinburg Hose Co. # 3, Mifflinburg; a member of the American Legion Post # 410 of Mifflinburg.

Orvis enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved having family time, get-togethers and events.

In addition to his wife, Orvis is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Katherine A. and Eugene E. Hassinger of Mifflinburg; two grand-daughters and spouses, Cindy and Neil Hummel of Mifflinburg and Tammy and Aaron Button of Hughesville; great-grandchildren, Christopher Hummel and Ashley Hummel both of Mifflinburg; a sister-in-law, Dolly Wallace of Mifflinburg; and a niece, Linda Vonada of Mifflinburg.

He was preceded in death by a twin brother, Earl W. Wallace on July 3, 2012.

Family and friends are invited to the viewing on Thursday from 10:00 – 11:00 am at Christ’s United Lutheran Church, Millmont, PA; followed by the funeral service at 11:00 with Rev. John D. Yost, officiating.

Interment with military honors accorded by veterans from the Mifflinburg American Legion will be in Hartleton Cemetery, Union County, Hartley Township, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Orvis`s memory may be sent to Christ’s United Lutheran Church, 13765 Old Turnpike Road, Millmont, Pa 17845.
