Ray M. Ard

January 17, 1929 — March 30, 2012

Ray Musser Ard entered into rest peacefully during his sleep after conquering many obstacles. He was surrounded by the love of many friends and family members and his beloved dog Putter during his last days.

Ray Ard, son of Wilson P. Ard and Marion L. (Musser) Ard, was born January 17, 1929 in Woodward, PA. Ray graduated from Lewisburg High School in 1947. He graduated from Penn State University in 1951 with a degree in Ag Education and Chemistry.

Ray is survived by his wife Nancy J. (Bennage) Ard, with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage in August. Their 3 children are Alan (wife Kyle), Tim (wife Eileen), and the late Louise Adams. Ray was blessed with 8 grandchildren: Gregory (wife Samantha), Ryan, Leah, Danielle, Justin, Kiara (husband Andrew), Ethan, and Holden, and 1 great-grandchild, Gavin. Ray is also survived by his sister, Mary Lou Miller (husband Johnson) of Mifflinburg.

Ray resided at the family farm in Lewisburg since 1962, enjoying his love of family, the land, and nature. Whether it was his award-winning swine breeding operation or his exemplary dairy operation, Ray's passion was farming and working the land. In 1991, Ray, along with Nancy and Alan, built Ard's Farm Market.

Ray was an avid hunter, fisherman, and marksman, always being watched for the secrets of his success. Ray was a founding member of the Buffalo Valley Sportsman's Club, a member of The Rugged Mountain Hunting Club, and a previous member of Lehman Lake Rod & Gun Club. Ray served as a hunter education instructor for many years as well. He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church for over 40 years, serving on the Church Council, teaching Sunday School, Lector, Greeter, and many other committees. Ray also enjoyed participating in sports in his younger years, and later enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in a variety of sports.

Services for Ray will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 2349 Old Turnpike, Lewisburg, PA. Fellowship and viewing will be on Thursday, April 5 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, and on Friday, April 6 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. A noon service at the church will follow the viewing on Friday. A meal will be served at the church following the service.
