Robert A Spangler

Dr. Robert Allen Spangler, 83, of Winfield, entered into eternal rest on May 22, 2025, at his residence.

Born on July 24, 1941, in Buffalo Twp., Union County, the son of the late Woodrow Wilson and Ellen (Miller) Spangler. On June 10, 1967, he married the love of his life, Barbara Anne Reish, who passed away on July 9, 2023.

Robert attended the Lewisburg Area School District and graduated from Lewisburg High School in 1959. In 1963, he graduated from the Pennsylvania State University, College of Agriculture.  He went on to the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, where he earned his degree in 1967.

Robert proudly operated a large animal veterinary practice, primarily in Union and Snyder Counties, for nearly 40 years. He fondly ran into clients after retirement who still referred to him as “Doc.”

Robert was an avid fan of Penn State Wrestling and football. He held football season tickets for many years and loved taking friends and family, especially his grandson Peter, to the games. His tailgate food was always the best. He also loved Army Football, in honor of his son David.

Robert was a nature lover, loving to feed the local birds and take drives in the mountains. He loved answering medical quizzes from his granddaughter Julia. He was especially proud of all his grandchildren, visiting them in Texas, Georgia, Ohio, North Carolina, and Indiana. Robert loved to cook and bake and was known for making elaborate holiday meals. He was always working on the family tree as the family historian.

Robert is survived by two children and their spouses: Mary Elizabeth (Maribeth) and Jack Schaffer of Ebensburg, PA; and David and Amy Spangler of Mishawaka, IN. Four grandchildren: Peter (and wife Nicole), Durham, NC; Mitchell, Austin, TX; Julia (and Husband Trent), Aurora, CO; and Andrew, Mishawaka, IN. Two great-grandchildren: Luca Lee and Lainey Elizabeth. He is survived by his sister, Kate Humbert, of Danville, PA, and by his brother, John (and wife, Susie), of Chesterfield, MO; his brother-in-law, Andrew Reish, and his sister-in-law, Ann Reish, of Vienna, VA; and his sister-in-law, Helene Reish, of Portage, MI. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, including his special grandnephew Leo.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, George Humbert and Joseph Reish.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. George’s Church, 814 St. Louis Street, Lewisburg, PA 17837.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Adamo Funeral Home, 16 Walnut Street, Mifflinburg, where the memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m.
