William David Roush

August 30, 1943 — March 29, 2025

William (Bill) David Roush, 81, of Mifflinburg, entered into rest on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at his home.

Bill was born in Sunbury on August 30, 1943, to the late Walter Roush and Leona (Straub) Roush Umpstead. He spent his formative years on Mahoning Street in Danville, PA where he became an Ironman at heart. Some of his most important and lasting relationships were made here; like his friendship with Don Jones who would remain his best friend for over 60 years. It was Don, who while on a trip to Stamm’s Dance Hall in 1963, helped introduce Bill to Patricia L. Gordon, the woman who would become the love of Bill’s life. On April 3, 1964 in Northumberland, Bill and Pat were happily married and spent the next 61 years by each others’ loving side. In 1965 they added to their family when they were blessed with their son, Shawn William.

Bill worked briefly at Pennsylvania House Furniture and as an attendant and mechanic at the Gulf Station in Sunbury until taking a job as the manager of Mark’s Auto Parts in Mifflinburg in 1975. It was at this time that they made the move to their beautiful forever home in Dice. Bill continued to manage the Auto Parts Store through its various changes and eventually retired as the manager of Fishers Auto Parts after 30 years of service. It was undoubtedly a major source of pride for him that his son Shawn stepped into the management position after working alongside him for 20 of those years.

Hunting and fishing were always a favorite pastime of his. With a property on the outskirts of town that had beautiful Switzer Run passing through it, it was only natural. Taking one of his many beloved bird dogs out in the fields hunting is how Bill spent many an enjoyable day. Collecting antiques, particularly guns and knives, became a favorite pastime of Bill’s. Pat and him could be found at any number of sales, flea markets or yard sales combing through goods for a hidden gem. No road was off limits on their adventures… especially one that promised to be one of his infamous “shortcuts.” After retiring you would still often find Bill up at Witmer’s Garage where the guys loved sharing a box of donuts and a pot of coffee while they solved all of the world’s problems!

Family was always of the utmost importance to Bill. From afternoons fishing to evenings around the fire, he would never miss an opportunity to spend time with his grandkids. Picnics around his creek with his family are the memories of a life very well lived that leave a legacy of generosity that will never be forgotten.

Surviving in addition to his loving wife, Pat, is his son, Shawn (Kelly) Roush of New Berlin, two grandsons, Shannon (Amy Hill) and Logan; and two great-granddaughters, Ryen and Camron Roush of Milton. One brother (Jim), two sisters (Shirley and Betty), and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Roush and Leona (Straub) Roush Umpstead, his brother Walter Lee (Umpy) and his sister Janie.

Family and friends are invited to the memorial gathering in the Fellowship Hall Building at Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, 308 Market St., New Berlin, from 12 - 3 pm on Saturday, April 12, 2025. Refreshments will be provided.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bill's memory may be sent to Lungs for Logan at Service First Federal Credit Union
