Hazel Swartz

Hazel Shirley Russell Swartz, 83, of Lewisburg went to meet her Saviour on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

A native of Union County, she was born May 18, 1937, a daughter of Paul and Olive Keefer Russell. In the spring of 1955, she graduated from Lewisburg High School, and on June 25, she married her high school sweetheart, Mahlon David Swartz. In June of 2007 Mahlon preceded her in death, and she missed him very much.

For many years she taught Sunday School, and was an active and faithful member of the Mifflinburg Alliance Church. She enjoyed her horse Wrangler, her cats, making jewelry, putting puzzles together, crocheting, and adult coloring books. She could be found outside in any weather tending the farm and her animals.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Neil Hauger, daughter and son-in-law Betty and Timothy Smith, a son Merrill and fiance Leigh, and a daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Doug Farringer. Grandchildren Tony and Monica Hauger, Jesse Hauger, Randy and Christy Hauger, Luke and Alisha Smith, Paul Smith, Kathy Swartz, and Amber and Chris Harkleroad, Leah Ernest. Also, great grandchildren Olivia, Levi, Bryce, Evan, Erica, Makenna, Mason, Elaina, Ivy, Talia, Tony Jr, Patrick, Anna, and Elliott, a brother Donald Russell and sister Helen and John Prah, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one great granddaughter, Victoria Hauger and brothers Nelson, James, Elwood, Weber, and sisters Ruth,
Anna, Dorothy, Ida Mae Fisher, Aida Mull, Jean Lilley, and Nancy Powell.

Internment will be in the Mazeppa Cemetery on Sunday, January 31 at 2:30 pm. where friends and family can join us for a graveside service. Mandatory masks and social distancing are required.
