William R. Neitz Jr, 68, of Winfield, entered into rest on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at The Gatehouse Hospice, Williamsport.

Born on June 14, 1954 in Sunbury, the son of the late William R. and Martha (McGlinn) Neitz. On August 29, 1976, In Lewisburg he married the former Morita J. Hauck, who survives.

He was a graduate of Shikellamy High School class of 1972. He was also a graduate of the Pennsylvania State Police Academy Municipal Police training program and Allentown Police Department Criminal Investigators training program.

Bill began his law enforcement career in October of 1974 with the Lewisburg Borough Police Department having served as a patrolman until assuming the Chief of Police position in 2000 until his retirement in 2005. During that time he served as a detective for the Union County District Attorney office and the Snyder County District Attorney office. Following retirement he continued to serve with the Snyder County District Attorney Office, retiring in 2019.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Bill was a longtime Minnesota Viking Fan, and enjoyed going to the beach with family. In his young days he belonged to bowling leagues and went hunting and fishing.

Surviving in addition to his wife Morita, is one daughter and son-in-law, Lori and AJ Sassaman, one son and daughter-in-law, David and Jodi Neitz, one granddaughter, Brynlee, one sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Edward Mensch of Sunbury. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick J. Neitz.

A celebration of life service to honor Bill will be held at 10 am on Monday, June 12, 2023 at the Lewisburg Hotel.
